Focus and Scope

The World Journal of Biology and Biotechnology publishes high‑quality research in biological and biotechnological sciences. The journal welcomes original research articles, review articles, short communications, disease notes, and case studies that contribute significantly to scientific knowledge.

The journal covers, but is not limited to, the following fields:

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to the World Journal of Biology and Biotechnology undergo a rigorous double‑blind external peer review, where both authors and reviewers remain anonymous.

The review process follows these steps:

  1. Initial Editorial Screening
    The Editor‑in‑Chief or an assigned Handling Editor checks for relevance to scope, originality, and author guideline compliance.

  2. Plagiarism Screening

    All manuscripts are checked for originality using Turnitin. Manuscripts with similarity above **18%** may be returned for revision or rejected.
  3. Reviewer Assignment
    Manuscripts are sent to at least two independent expert reviewers.

  4. Double‑Blind Peer Review
    Reviewers evaluate manuscripts for scientific quality, methodology, clarity, and relevance.

  5. Reviewer Recommendations
    Reviewers may recommend:

  6. Author Revision
    If revisions are recommended, authors must submit a revised version with a point‑by‑point response addressing all reviewer comments.

    The Editor‑in‑Chief makes the final decision based on reviewer reports and revised manuscript quality.

  8. Copyediting and Proofreading
    Accepted manuscripts are professionally copyedited and proofread. A proofread version is provided to authors for final approval.

  9. Publication
    Upon author approval, articles are published online immediately in the current issue and archived permanently.

  • Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers’ comments and recommendations, the Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision on the manuscript. The possible editorial decisions include:

  • Accept – The manuscript is accepted for publication without further changes.

  • Minor Revisions – Authors must address minor comments before acceptance.

  • Major Revisions – Substantial revisions are required and the manuscript may undergo another round of review.

  • Reject – The manuscript does not meet the journal’s scientific or ethical standards.

The decision is communicated to the corresponding author through the journal’s editorial system.

Reviewers are expected to submit their reports within 4–6 weeks. After receiving reviewer reports, the Editor‑in‑Chief makes the final decision based on reviewer recommendations.

 

Publication Frequency

The journal publishes three issues per year. Articles are published online immediately after acceptance and production.

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), allowing users to copy, distribute, and reuse the work with proper citation.

All papers published in the journal are freely available to the scientific community under an open-access model.

 

Archiving

The journal ensures long‑term digital preservation of its content through both the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) archiving system and participation in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), guaranteeing permanent accessibility and secure preservation of published articles.

 

Editorial Responsibilities

Role of the Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief has overall responsibility for the academic quality and integrity of the World Journal of Biology and Biotechnology. The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of submitted manuscripts after considering the recommendations of peer reviewers and editorial board members.

The Editor-in-Chief ensures that all manuscripts are evaluated solely on the basis of their scientific merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the scope of the journal, without discrimination based on gender, nationality, institutional affiliation, or political beliefs.

Editors must recuse themselves from handling any manuscript in which they have a conflict of interest, whether personal, financial, or academic.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for managing the peer-review process and ensuring that manuscripts receive fair, unbiased, and timely evaluation. Their responsibilities include:

  • Conducting an initial evaluation of submitted manuscripts

  • Selecting qualified reviewers with appropriate expertise

  • Ensuring confidentiality of manuscripts during the review process

  • Evaluating reviewer comments and making recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief

  • Ensuring compliance with ethical and publication standards

Editors must maintain the highest level of professional integrity and objectivity when handling manuscripts.

Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where a conflict of interest exists.

Editors and editorial staff must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents. Information regarding submitted manuscripts must not be disclosed to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial advisors, or the publisher as appropriate.

Conflict of Interest

Editors must avoid handling manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest due to personal, professional, financial, or institutional relationships with the authors. In such cases, the manuscript will be assigned to another editor to ensure impartial evaluation.

The World Journal of Biology and Biotechnology relies on expert reviewers to maintain the scientific quality of published articles. Reviewers play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, originality, and significance of submitted research.

Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide objective, constructive, and timely evaluations of manuscripts

  • Assess the originality, methodology, and scientific significance of the research

  • Provide clear suggestions for improvement where necessary

Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share or discuss the manuscript with others without permission from the editor.

Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively and supported with clear arguments. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate.

Conflict of Interest

Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors or institutions involved.

Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest prior to accepting an assignment.

Timeliness

Reviewers are expected to complete their reviews within the specified timeframe to ensure efficient editorial processing.
